Description:

1) Chloride contamination has become more common in the past seven years than was experienced in the past twenty. Organic chloride content ranges from below the detection limit of 0.1 ppm to 10 ppm in the overhead naphtha feed and combined aggregate feed to naphtha hydrotreater. 2) Chronic low organic chloride contamination makes for a manageable but annoying problem that can be dealt with via salt dispersant chemistry and water washes. 3) Episodic high organic chloride loading results in rapid fouling events and corrosion. These can be removed with a successful water wash. Treatment helps to manage these events but cannot prevent them entirely.
