The Gulf Coast Labor Outlook Roundtable is a forum where owner companies and contractors can come together to review the extraordinary effects of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the petroleum refining and petrochemical industries, in particular the effects on the skilled crafts and construction labor pool. This one-day meeting will address the present state of the clean-up and recovery and the projected labor demand for rebuilding and the concurrent publicly announced industry projects and turnarounds. Potential shortages of labor resources will be identified and attendees will discuss how those might be relieved. The topics will use the industry’s recent experience as a starting point to discuss the development of an adequate labor pool for the future. The meeting’s topics also include (tentative):
  • Lessons Learned from the Gulf Coast Hurricanes

  • Short-term Strategies for Coping with a Radically Changed Labor Market

  • Recruiting, Training, Retaining

The meeting schedule allows a significant amount of time for discussion following each presentation and networking with other attendees.
